Her Royal Highness's Traditional Festive Service of Carols Spotlights Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a mix of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The theme of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to young musicians aided by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the concert.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
