Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
